Dear Michael,
Daily Protest .. Protest Between the Big Marches
For 1149 days in a row I have walked downtown with my 16"x 18" Teach Peace sign on a 4' 7" stick. People say, "Where's the demonstration?" I say, "Right here!" Two months ago a friend printed up a Militant Pacifist tee-shirt for me to wear when my sign and I go out for a walk. Many people stop me and we can talk for a moment about the $820,000 per minute we're spending on the Military Budget, not counting an additional $200,000 per minute for 'off-the-books' Iraq. Money that could be spent on education and health care. And we talk about the priceless lives being lost by both us and the Iraqis.
You too can just go out in your community tomorrow. I only felt like an idiot for the first week. Now I feel dumb without my Teach Peace sign. Why not encourage the dialogue as much as possible? When I go into a store, I put the sign part down by my side. Leap in.
