When I Took Over My Precinct...

Subject: I am Actively Supporting a Candidate for the Democratic Party County Chair To Replace The One We Have

Dear Michael,

We have had a county chair for 10 years here in Texas who has allowed the party to slip into nothingness. Out of 47 elected positions we only have six that are Democrats. We also have some 600 precinct chair positions, half of which are empty.

During the last presidential campaign, countless volunteers were turned away from the party headquarters and told "we will call you (they never did) or, "we have nothing for you to do". We were even told by the elected state representative in our district that yard signs don't win elections, when we started a drive to provide them out of our own pockets. There were many people who called the party office wanting yard signs to put in their yard, only to be told they didn't have any, or they were selling them for $5 each.

When I took over my precinct, no training was provided to me, nothing was sent to me to help me. I had to find out on my own. As a result of this practice, over half the appointed chairs only run elections when we have them and don't GOTV in their precincts. In those precincts without a chair, or no active chair, no Democrat even garnered one vote. No wonder we lose elections! I said then and I say now -

I AM MADDER THAN HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!
