In the United States, each year about 40,000 Americans are infected with HIV.
HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. AIDS is a collection of illnesses (brought on by a severely depressed immune system) that result in a person's death.
Around the world, approximately 40 million are living with HIV/AIDS.
More people die from AIDS, not because they can't afford treatment, but because they never were tested.
When you go for routine medical check-ups, ask that sexually transmitted infections testing, including HIV screening, be included. Make it a habit to get tested. The test for HIV can be as easy as having your mouth swabbed.
Use condoms when you engage in any type of sex whether it be oral, anal or vaginal. You can use dental dams, or cut a condom down the middle and use this as a barrier when performing oral sex on a woman.
Talk with your partner about testing and protection before you become intimate.
