Rep. Anthony Weiner has a fan — filmmaker Michael Moore.
Moore held out the Brooklyn-Queens congressman today as the guy President Obama should look to in the effort to resuscitate health care reform.
That’s because, Moore said, what people really want from Obama is a stronger push for universal health care, including a single-payer health care system like Medicare for all. He says instead of going for the hard-to-understand compromises under debate in Congress, Obama would have massive support if he threw down the gauntlet and demanded a single-payer system.
“You need to hit the reset button — that’s all,” Moore said. “Just hit the reset button and go back to the drawing board. Rep. Weiner’s there at the drawing board already. He’s there with Sen. (Bernie) Sanders (I-Vt.), and they’ve got the legislation that the majority of the American people want.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has promised Weiner he’ll get a vote on a single-payer plan on the House floor. Sanders has no similar promise in the Senate.
