I had a great time Sunday at the Flint debut of Michael Moore's new movie, "Capitalism: A Love Story." Whether you agree or disagree with Michael's views, this movie will definitely leave you with plenty to talk about. That's what I appreciate most about him as a film maker.
The screening at the Whiting began at 3:30, and by 2:30, the line at the door stretched all the way down past the Sarvis Center parking lot, and up to the Buick Gallery! This was like no other movie experience I had sat through before. The Whiting was packed with Flint area residents, and it seemed as if there was a vocal, and emotional response from the crowd every five minutes or so. It was like watching Rocky IV in the theater, and hearing chants of "Rocky, Rocky!" and "USA!", but with more substance (hard to believe, considering that the Rocky-Ivan Drago fight scene is second to none when it comes to substance.) I sat in a section of Michael's family and friends, and you could tell how excited they were to have him back home. I had the privilege of meeting him afterwards, during a brief stop at 501 Bar and Grill. It was a humble and toned down version of the guy, who only a half hour earlier had led a passionate, and at times, intense question and answer session.
I broke the ice by bonding over our common obsession for anything Bruce Springsteen. If all goes as planned, somewhere down the road, we hope to have Michael spend a few hours with our Breakfast Club boys, live on ABC12 News This Morning.
Getting back to "Capitalism: A Love Story", my best advice is to see the movie, and keep an open mind. Whether you're on the left or right, it's two hours worth spending.
See you bright and early tomorrow morning.
