Robin Acree is the co-founder and Executive Director of Grass Roots Organizing (GRO!), a statewide grassroots driven group headquartered in Mexico, Missouri.
The lack of regulation of the financial industry is clearly hurting us all. Big Banks crashed our economy and got bailed out while the rest of us continue to face massive cuts and losses. Because they crashed our national economy, state and local governments cannot depend on property, sales or income taxes to fund our critical public services. As state budgets are cut, critical state services disappear, more jobs and homes are lost, and taxes and fees increase for everyday people which only feeds the downward spiral. We will march forth on March 4th to tell our Statehouse to stand with us. Enough is Enough!
GRO - Grass Roots Organizing brings together the rank and file to pull rank on our decision-makers and remind them that those who put them into office can just as easily vote them out. We will march forth on March 4th with hundreds of Missourians who are demanding an answer from our elected officials, “Where is the return on our investment?” We demand that state budgets not be balanced on the backs of everyday people. Right now the Missouri Statehouse is considering a massive sales tax on all Missourians while abolishing income taxes for corporations and the super wealthy elite. Seeking to capitalize on the crisis begun by his own kind on Wall Street former investment banker Rex Sinquefield has unleashed his highly paid lobbyists at Gaines and Brown Consulting practices to promote this latest scheme to bilk Americans and give big corporations a break. We are not going to stand for this!
Rex Sinquefield misuses his fortune to finance shortsighted sweeping schemes that harm our economy hurt hard working Missourians and influence public policies! How is he doing it?
• Rex pays lobbyists from Gaines Brown Consulting to get our state lawmakers to eliminate all taxes and impose a mega sales tax to injure Missouri families.
• Rex single-handedly funded a million dollar statewide initiative to end earnings taxes in St. Louis and Kansas City that would hurt local government and put residents at risk!
• Rex created 100 separate political action committees to funnel funds to candidates to influence the outcome of elections and lawmaking at the Capitol.
Join us tomorrow in Jefferson City to take back our democracy.
Meet Thursday March 4th at 10:30am on the south lawn of the Capitol Building in Jefferson City (Map)
