Kucinich Seeks to Punctuate His Efforts to Abbreviate Bush's Term

Anyone who thought Dennis J. Kucinich would quiet down after Democratic leaders gave him a public forum to talk about impeaching the president hasn’t met Dennis J. Kucinich.

The Ohio Democrat was allowed to make his case for impeachment at a House Judiciary Committee hearing July 25. But he’s back already with what he calls a “citizen’s petition” intended to demonstrate support for throwing President Bush out of the White House before his term ends in January.

In an online appeal to the names on his campaign e-mail list, Kucinich calls the Judiciary discussion “a day of singular importance.”

“For the first time the case for impeachment was discussed in front of a congressional committee, in depth, at length and with authority,” he wrote before going on to explain that it wasn’t enough. He wants to do more to highlight grievances against the president and Vice President Dick Cheney.

And no, the effort’s not just sailing through the world of the Web.

Kucinich intends to submit nearly 100,000 signatures — some mailed to his congressional office — in support of impeachment so that the “people will know that their message” will be delivered to the Judiciary committee, he said Wednesday.
